LifeSaver Retreats

Designed for eighth graders, LifeSaver Retreats are one-day workshops that explore the topics of human dignity and sexuality from a Catholic perspective. Typically led by a youth educator, and a team of high school and college student peer leaders, this retreat offers students the opportunity to learn about their faith and about some of the difficult choices that lie ahead. The pressures students face in high school are often much more difficult to handle than they expect; attending a LifeSaver Retreat helps them to define their values and to learn some tools to help them cope with pressure when it arises.

The retreat day is roughly split in half. During the morning session, the retreat participants spend time reviewing various threats to human dignity, both in small groups and in the large group. The afternoon session talks about life in high school, sexual health facts, and how to live a truly chaste life.

If you live in Portland/Salem/Eugene area, please see our calendar of events to see when the next LifeSaver retreat is scheduled. The registration fee for each student is only $5.00, in order to cover the cost of lunch (downloadable flyer). You may also schedule your own LifeSaver retreat for your entire youth group or class (group size should be 15-30 students). The cost for a private retreat is $250.00 and can be arranged by contacting NWFS.

If you live outside of Oregon/Washington and are interested in putting on your own LifeSaver Retreat, we have kits available for purchase, complete with a workshop manual and all the necessary props, including: Preview of a Birth video, The Consequence Game, Lima Bean jar, plastic frog, and one sample goodie bag.

These retreats are available in English and Spanish.
