PGE Renewable Development Fund and Lightsource Energy join together to launch a Solar Array on the roof of Northwest Family Services
Ribbon Cutting Event Celebrates the Launch of a 128 Solar Panel Array!
SE Portland – Northwest Family Services (NWFS), social service nonprofit, the PGE Renewable Development Fund and Lightsource Energy invite the community to celebrate the launch of a new community solar panel array and system June 21, 12pm -1pm, at the NWFS headquarters. Learn more about solar energy, enjoy a snack, and RSVP your attendance at www.nwfs.org.
NWFS, known for its focus on poverty reduction programs, was awarded an $87,288 PGE Renewable Development Fund award to install a solar panel array and system on the roof of their SE Portland headquarters. LightSource Energy, LLC is the Developer, as well as the EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) Contractor for this project.
The roof array reduces the building’s overall carbon footprint, and allows Northwest Family Services to invest the saved energy consumption dollars back into supporting the community. These solar panels provide 31,983 kilowatt hours of electricity annually (at least 55% of the building's annual energy consumption). On an equivalent basis, this solar power system offsets the emissions from the consumption of 2,529 gallons of gasoline or 23,985 pounds of coal burned, amounting to a reduction of 22.5 metric tons of CO2 emissions each year!
Renewable Power Program
Northwest Family Services joins 18 other projects awarded funding by the PGE Renewable Development Fund during the 2016 award cycle. This project was made possible with funding support from PGE’s Renewable Development Fund, which is comprised of contributions from customers purchasing renewable power via PGE’s renewable power products. Since 1999, the PGE Renewable Development Fund has helped fund more than 7.8 Megawatts of new renewable energy generation currently installed in Oregon, with another 3 Megawatts under construction. With over 150,000 participating households, PGE’s renewable power program is the largest renewable power program of its kind in the country!
“Our renewable power customers have really led the way on supporting renewable energy. I can’t imagine a better way to support the mission of Northwest Family Services. Not only will this new solar array reduce the building’s overall carbon footprint, it will also help NWFS put more of their resources towards supporting the community. On behalf of our renewable power customers, we are extremely proud to support this project,” says Josh Halley, PGE Renewable Development Fund Program Manager.
“An investment in reducing your energy consumption through solar power not only helps the planet, but will save your personal or business’ bottom line long term. It has been a pleasure to work with both the PGE Renewable Development Fund and Northwest Family Services,” says LightSource Energy’s CEO, Robert Sandberg.
Northwest Family Services’ Executive Director and Founder Rose Fuller, says, “We are thrilled to have been awarded these funds to reduce our carbon footprint and save dollars that can be reinvested back into our community. Thank you PGE Renewable Development Fund and Lightsource Energy – we are so appreciative!”
