Empowering Families

At NWFS, we are proud to partner with the Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) to offer a range of valuable services to low-income families through the JOBS program. Our goal is to provide employment and life skills development to empower individuals and families to achieve self-sufficiency.
About the JOBS Program:
The Job Opportunity and Basic Skills (JOBS) program is specifically designed for low-income families who are receiving assistance through Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) in Oregon. JOBS aims to enhance employment opportunities and provide essential training to help participants secure and maintain stable employment.
As part of the JOBS program, we offer a variety of activities and classes under the Life Skills (LS) component. These activities are specifically tailored to equip participants with the necessary skills to succeed in the workplace and in their daily lives. Here are some of the key services we provide:
- Development of decision-making skills: We help participants develop effective decision-making strategies to navigate various challenges they may encounter in both their personal and professional lives.
- Development of goal-setting skills: Setting goals is crucial for personal growth and success. Our program focuses on empowering participants to set realistic and achievable goals while providing guidance on how to refine and work toward them.
- Development of financial literacy, budgeting, & money-management skills: We believe that financial literacy is a vital skill for individuals and families to achieve financial stability. Our program offers comprehensive training on budgeting, money management, and financial planning.
- Self-esteem building: Building self-esteem is essential for personal well-being and professional success. We provide supportive environments and activities that boost participants' self-confidence and foster a positive self-image.
- Support in identifying strengths: Recognizing and harnessing individual strengths is key to achieving success. Our program assists participants in identifying their unique talents and skills, empowering them to utilize these strengths in their personal and professional lives.
- Wrap-around services support: We understand that individuals may face various challenges beyond employment and life skills development. As part of our comprehensive approach, we offer wrap-around services to address additional needs such as social and emotional support, access to legal aid services, medical insurance, and finding a medical home.
- Home visits: We believe in providing personalized support to participants and their families. Our team conducts home visits to better understand individual circumstances and provide tailored assistance to meet their specific needs.
- Culturally specific resources and assistance: We offer a range of other customized services to ensure that every participant receives the support they require. These services include access to culturally specific resources and assistance tailored to communities such as Latinx, Black, African American, Pacific Islander, and Native American communities.
