Position Summary

The Northwest Family Services’ (NWFS) Development Intern role is an opportunity to support development efforts that help sustain NWFS’s work with youth and families.  NWFS programs include a variety of youth programs and social services.  The Development Intern will gain valuable experience in event planning and fund development, as well as project management skills.  Other areas a Development Intern may gain experience may include grant-writing skills, grant research, and relationship building skills.

Learning Objectives and Goals:

  • Project Management Skills, including communication, social media marketing, and logistics
  • Assist with donor correspondence and contacts
  • Grant tracking, research, and reporting
  • Procurement of auction items, wine, desserts, and restaurant gift cards for benefit dinner
  • Verify current auction solicitation prior to submitting for items
  • Solicitation of sponsorships for the event
  • Update communication hotsheet, assist with e-newsletters and annual appeal letter
  • Other development and administrative responsibilities as needed

Position Qualifications

  • BA/BS or currently in college (preferred)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and follow-through
  • Reliable, uses time effectively, accountable, high energy
  • Ability to work well independently, as well as part of a team
  • Coachable, eager to learn, and willing to take direction
  • Proficiency in Web-based research and Microsoft Office software
  • Interest in Northwest Family Services’ mission

Working Conditions

Frequent use of phones and computer to communicate with current and potential donors.

Although this is an unpaid role, it is an excellent opportunity to see how non-profits function from the inside.  Letter of recommendation and reference will be provided as well as any documentation needed to acquire college credit.
